Out of Place brings together several works by Mîrkan Deniz, with Masa at its center—referencing the table where the Treaty of Lausanne (1923) was signed, redrawing borders and disenfranchising Kurds and Armenians. The work explores Switzerland’s role in this history by recreating the signing table and examining its significance.
Other works in the book address themes of surveillance (Untitled (300)), Kurdish resistance (Barikat), and colonial legacies (Untitled (Out of Place)). The book consists of four 48-page volumes, bound with frontal wire stitching, disrupting conventional structure through varied printing techniques and paper types. Essays by Yasmin Afshar and Matthieu Jaccard provide historical and artistic context.
